Sustainability Report 2023

Research and development activities

GAZ-SYSTEM conducts innovative projects in cooperation with domestic as well as foreign scientific and research institutions. Using its own resources, the Company coordinates several initiatives for gas infrastructure operation, including the development and testing of new technologies for gas pipelines’ condition inspection and monitoring.

In 2023, the last two projects were completed as part of the INGA Joint-Venture (INGA JV) implemented in cooperation with the National Centre for Research and Development and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (now ORLEN Group). A total of four projects were completed under the INGA JV.

Research and development activities included testing systems based on satellite data for infrastructure monitoring. An important area of ongoing R&D activity are issues related to changes in the energy market aimed at climate neutrality.

Furthermore, in 2023, the GAZ-SYSTEM Management Board approved the Research Agenda which precisely defines the key directions for initiatives in this domain. This document is the result of an analysis of GAZ-SYSTEM's strategy, the Energy Policy of Poland, and the European Union. In addition, the dynamically changing situation on the energy market as well as regulations concerning environmental protection and alternative fuels have been duly addressed therein.

For many years at GAZ-SYSTEM the „Ideas Exchange” has been in place to stimulate and promote employee inventiveness and creativity. This programme generates practical solutions to improve specific areas of the Company’s operations. In 2023, 30 employees participated in the initiative by submitting their concepts related to energy saving.
