The Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline, 308 kilometres in length, constituting part of the Centre-East Corridor  programme, connected the gas compressor station in Gustorzyn (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province) with the compressor station in Wronów (Lubelskie Province). It is the longest pipeline construction project completed by the Company in 2023. Its route runs through four provinces: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie and Lubelskie. The pipeline made it possible to supply natural gas to central Poland, increase the flexibility of the transmission system and provide an opportunity for more entities to connect to GAZ-SYSTEM’s transmission network. In the future, it will also transport gas from the FSRU Terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk. The project will ensure continuity and security of gas supply to the residents of Warsaw, Łódź and Radom urban areas and will permit adding more connections with distribution system operators and industrial customers. GAZ-SYSTEM has already signed two connection agreements in the Mazowieckie Province: Radom – Stary Gózd and Pszczonów. The Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline will also enable gas supply to the power plant in Kozienice.

The Kędzierzyn-Koźle gas compressor station is key to supplying gas to the North-South Corridor. The expansion of this facility increased the country’s energy security and enabled strengthening of the entire national transmission system connecting supply directions located in northern Poland (such as the LNG Terminal and Baltic Pipe) with south-eastern Poland up to the interconnection with Slovakia.

Consequently, the expanded compressor station has been equipped with a mobile compressor unit, increasing the station’s capacity from 23 MW to 35 MW. An equally important stage in the 2023 expansion of the Kędzierzyn gas compressor station was the construction of three additional gas filter-separators. This increased the station’s capacity from 750,000 m3/h to 1,500,000 m3/h. These investments  were completed under the Coal-to-gas Program.

The connection allowed the PGE Dolna Odra power plant to be supplied with gas from the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście via the existing Szczecin – Lwówek and the Goleniów – Lwówek gas pipelines constructed as part of the Baltic Pipe Project. The investment means that now the plant’s two gas and steam units are supplied with natural gas, ensuring low-emission generation of power for the residents of the Zachodniopomorskie Province.

The route of the 63 km long Przywodzie – PGE Gryfino 2050 connection gas pipeline runs through seven municipalities in the Zachodniopomorskie Province: Przelewice, Pyrzyce, Kozielice, Bielice, Banie, Gryfino, Widuchowa. The pipeline route was designed to avoid conflict with residential buildings. In addition to the pipeline, the following process facilities were built:

  • two line valve stations at connection points: Przywodzie LVCS with a pig launcher and Kozielice LVCS,
  • two connection facilities: Lubanowo and Krzypnica,
  • a regulation and metering station with a capacity of 250,000 m3/h, and a line valve station together with the pig receiver in Nowe Czarnowo – Dolna Odra SRP+LVS+PR.

During construction, trenchless methods were used, i.e. 2 HDD DN700 crossings were completed under the Tywa and Płonia rivers, with a length of 557 m and 1,437 m respectively.

The project included laying connection pipelines and fibre optic cables along the pipelines as well as the construction of Sulimów pressure regulation station (200,000 m3/h capacity) and Czechnica metering station (63,000 m3/h). The connection pipeline route passes through the municipalities of Oława, Domaniów and Siechnice in the Dolnośląskie Province and provides the CHP plant with 52,000 m3/h of natural gas. The thermal energy produced by the new Czechnica CHP will provide heat for, among others, the residents of Wrocław, Siechnice municipality and the surrounding towns.
