GAZ-SYSTEM for Education
Support for education is one of the pillars of GAZ-SYSTEM’s corporate social responsibility. The Company has been pursuing the 'GAZ-SYSTEM for Education’ program since 2020. The objective of the initiative is to support educational institutions in municipalities where investment projects are implemented by the Company and 2023 saw the fourth edition of the program. Financial support to equip physics and chemistry laboratories and purchase sports equipment was granted to 75 schools in 29 municipalities. The Company contributed PLN 551,000 for this project. In the previous three editions, 59 municipalities benefited from the program, with support amounting to PLN 1,770,000.
The purchase of teaching aids has contributed to creating equal educational opportunities for children, allowing them to discover the secrets of physical and chemical phenomena through hands-on learning. By committing funds to improve the quality of education, GAZ-SYSTEM is strengthening its position among socially responsible companies. In addition to its concern for Poland's energy independence, GAZ-SYSTEM pays considerable attention to activities showing social responsibility.
In its management plan, GAZ-SYSTEM takes into account community interests and is very supportive of education, allowing schools’ development by providing them with the necessary equipment. This provides pupils with the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience, a priority in education as it is the only way for the knowledge gained to be retained in the young minds for a considerable period of time. Thanks to the funds obtained, three schools were able to upgrade the equipment in their physics and chemistry laboratories. The teaching aids purchased will allow better understanding of the complexities of natural phenomena and allows the teachers to make their lessons more attractive to students.
School with Energy
Another educational program implemented by the Company is 'School with Energy’. As part of the program, GAZ-SYSTEM has provided patronage to five secondary schools across Poland including: Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Technical Secondary School Complex in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, the Vocational and Adult Education Centre in Jarosław, Kazimierz Wielki Complex of Construction and Comprehensive Education Schools in Jarosław, Technical Secondary School No. 3 in Łódź, Mechatronics Technical Secondary School No. 1 in Warsaw, and Ignacy Mościcki Secondary Technical School Complex in Tarnów. By virtue of the cooperation with GAZ-SYSTEM, the schools receive financial support for vocational laboratory retrofitting, organisation of workshops and scholarships for students. In the 2023/2024 school year, GAZ-SYSTEM has committed PLN 150,000 for this purpose.
The Vocational and Adult Education Centre in Jarosław has been cooperating with GAZ-SYSTEM since 2017. The patronage agreement covers a range of actions for the benefit of students and teachers. As part of the cooperation, excursions are organised for students to, among others, gas compressor stations, pressure reduction and metering stations and other facilities owned by the Company. Regular donations received from GAZ-SYSTEM go towards the purchase of equipment for vocational laboratories and grants for the best students in the gas technician profession.
For several years, GAZ-SYSTEM has been cooperating with Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Technical Secondary School Complex in Grodzisk Wielkopolski implementing the ‘School with Energy’ program. The Company supports the school in its educational activities by organising periodic workshops aimed at broadening young people's knowledge of the production and use of gaseous fuels and safe operation of gas transmission pipelines. Thanks to the mobile laboratory, students took part in a unique chemistry workshop: in a specially arranged laboratory, the students were given the necessary work tools and performed interesting experiments under the guidance of professionals. The young people of the Mechatronic Technical Secondary School participated in excursions to gas facilities. The headmasters, teachers and, most importantly, the students of Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Technical Secondary School Complex in Grodzisk Wielkopolski greatly appreciate support received from GAZ‑SYSTEM. Thanks to the Company's activities, the level of students' knowledge about gaseous fuels and their use has increased. Students are more motivated to learn, while the school has gained valuable equipment for its mechatronics laboratory thus increasing the effectiveness of students’ learning.
Natural Energy Fund
The Natural Energy Fund is a long-standing grant program implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM. Its objective is to popularise environmental protection activities and environmental education. Its 13th edition was completed in 2023. The initiative’s participants could choose one theme for their activities from among the three proposed:
- green labs – creating places for outdoor education, experimenting and developing passions in a green landscaped space,
- dream gardens – developing green areas for relaxation, play and communing with nature, a common space to create beneficial surroundings for people, animals, birds and insects,
- trees near you – landscaping by planting trees and shrubs in cooperation with the forestry administration, municipal and city departments responsible for planting trees, purchasing seedlings and planting itself,
The delivery of the project named 'Vertical garden with a chillout zone – green space at school' under the Natural Energy Fund grant program organised by GAZ-SYSTEM was an amazing adventure. The best way in which to sum it up is with a quote from Professor Florian Plit: "We have only one Earth, and its future depends on each and every seemingly small human action”.
With the resources received from the Natural Energy Fund, three "green labs" were created, tackling problems identified through comprehensive analyses and research. Shaping environmental awareness is a key element in the struggle for our future, and it is particularly important for universities as educational institutions to take steps. The Cracow University of Technology, aware of the growing role of ecology and sustainability, has decided to take an innovative step to improve the quality of its campus and its contribution to environmental protection. As part of the Natural Energy Fund program, the Cracow University of Technology has launched projects aimed not only at improving living and learning conditions on the campus, but also at involving the academic community and residents of Cracow in practical environmental actions. The project exemplifies the synergies between environmental education and practical solutions, transforming the campus space into a sustainable place friendly for everyone.
The Natural Energy Fund grant program is now in its second year of supporting environmental projects, giving voice and initiative to local communities. This is an excellent example of long-term action that fits in with the Company's strategy and its Sustainable Development Goals, while at the same time allowing project implementers a lot of freedom in choosing the methods and forms of work. As a result, environmental care and environmental education are tailored to local needs, are interesting and engaging for participants, and bring tangible effects in the form of changes in habits, attitudes and growing awareness and knowledge.
Employee volunteering
In 2023, GAZ-SYSTEM launched two employee volunteering programs: ‘Together We Can Do More’ and ’Energy for Action’. The first initiative was conducted in a competitive formula. It was designed to support original volunteer projects and stimulate creativity and activity in this area. More than 50 GAZ-SYSTEM employees took part in the program and 10 projects were implemented. The Company allocated over PLN 45,000 for this purpose.
The second employee volunteering program, ‘Energy for Action’, targeted employees involved in long-term volunteering. They could apply for a grant of PLN 2,000 to implement a project for the benefit of a specific beneficiary. Seven volunteers benefited from the program by implementing projects for a total of nearly PLN 14,000.
